World Health Day is celebrated every year on April 7th. It is a global awareness day organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) to mark the founding of the WHO in 1948. Each year, the WHO selects a specific health theme to highlight and promote and raises awareness about important health issues affecting people worldwide.
The day provides an opportunity to focus on health issues that are of critical importance to the global community and to mobilize support for action to improve health outcomes. Previous themes for World Health Day have included mental health, diabetes, universal health coverage, and the need for health equity.
At Atlante we endeavour to stay in touch with healthy eating initiatives and we're heavily involved in taking action to fight against food waste and we're encouraging the adoption of a healthy, balanced diet which are two issues that are closely connected. A concrete and immediate solution is needed to counter the impact of excess waste has on our economy, the environment and public health. It is essential to consider the impact a proper diet can have as an effective strategy in the fight against food waste. A balanced diet creates a positive relationship between environmental protection and individual well-being.
WHO’s 75th anniversary year is an opportunity to look back at public health successes that have improved quality of life during the last seven decades. It is also an opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today and tomorrow.
It is only through a collective commitment by all of us that we will be able to contribute to building a healthier and more balanced society in which food waste finally becomes a problem of the past.
