Atlante is eliminating palm oil from its products, reducing packaging waste, participating in charitable food collections, and more in response to key food crisis research.

850 million people are at risk of falling into poverty due to the sharp decline in economic activity caused by COVID-19 according to the Hunger Project- and these issues don't seem to be going away.

With the price of a weekly shop in the UK increasing day on day, according to nimblefins, the average weekly food cost for the typical UK household is around £103. That’s up around 8% from a year ago. This over a year means that the average annual food cost for a typical UK household is around £5,345 in 2022 (based on the average 2.4 people per household).

At the World Food Day events which took place this weekend, the messages are clear:

  • We must all be the change
  • Global solutions to the crisis are needed more than ever
  • As individuals, we can play an important role in ensuring that no one is left behind.

Working Together to Feed the World

So what can we all do? The first thing is to think about where the food comes from and the impact that it has Earthology.ie have come up with some great tips to help with this:

  • Choose locally sourced food where you can
  • Buy in-season food (no strawberries in December)
  • Eat the food you buy (don't waste it)
  • Food waste = 8% of global emissions
  • Eat less meat and more vegetables

Little changes can make a big difference. If everyone makes a change, it could go some way toward solving this crisis.

Here at Atlante we're committed to our CSR strategy, which is part of a much broader plan that we’ve invested in throughout 2022, and we'll continue to invest in this for 2023 and beyond. We're involving all of our people to accomplish this as a team, setting targets for our people, our product and our planet, below are a few of our initiatives, we’ll share more soon:

  • People: We'll be working with our team to take part in food collections and giving food to charities.

  • Product: We're working to reduce waste from the packaging of our products, all soy, Palm Oil and Cocoa sourced for Atlante’s products will mean zero deforestation.

  • Planet: We'll be adapting our car fleet to be hybrid electric, ensuring there's no land-fill from our offices and also aiming to minimise our food waste year on year.
