Demand Prediction tricky say some retailers

According to Reuters after the "salad crisis" which affected the UK supermarkets earlier in the year, shoppers are now finding it difficult to find items like: pasta, beer and toothpaste on the shelves.

Supermarkets are struggling to predict demand which is a knock on effect of COVID-19, consumers have new ways of buying and are fighting the cost-of-living crisis and thus changing their shopping habits.

Suppliers are finding it hard to strike deals with the supermarkets and whilst the commodities prices are high this is contributing to erratic stocks of goods as diverse as chocolate, ketchup and shampoo, with war and weather playing a part too.

It's been reported that the Carrefour group is using AI to monitor and order 90% of its food supplies across the Middle East. They are doing this because there are 8% to 12% missing items on shelves, it used to be around 7% to 9% prior to 2020, and now they've seen it increase drastically.
