Last week, the Atlante UK team spent a rewarding day at City Harvest’s Acton warehouse, contributing to efforts to tackle food insecurity in London. It was a hands on experience that offered insight into the scale of the challenge and the impact of coordinated action.
Sorting, Packing Produce, and Making a Difference
From the moment we arrived, the warehouse was a hub of activity. Our focus for the day was to sort, pack, and prepare surplus food for redistribution to local shelters and community projects.
We carefully went through fresh fruit such as mangos, apples, and pears, checking each item for perished or low-quality produce to ensure only the best products were included. We also handled drinks, chilled items, and frozen sausages, ensuring that every product was ready to reach those who need it most. It was inspiring to see these items come together into nutritious, balanced food parcels.
Teamwork in Action
The day highlighted the power of collaboration. Our team coordinated to efficiently sort and pack a wide range of items, ensuring parcels were carefully prepared for delivery. Working together in a fast-paced environment demonstrated the impact of collective effort. It was motivating to see how organisation, attention to detail, and shared focus transformed a warehouse full of surplus food into boxes ready to support communities across London.
Reflecting on Impact
Being at City Harvest provided a clear perspective on the scale of food insecurity in the UK and the critical role charities play in addressing it. It also reinforced Atlante UK’s commitment to sustainability, community, and reducing food waste wherever possible. By the end of the day, our team left with a sense of accomplishment and renewed motivation. Whilst we regularly donate surplus food to City Harvest, there is no substitute for the tangible feeling of providing hands-on support and seeing the impact of hard work.
