Atlante presents an innovative plant-based range at Marca 2023

Plant Heroes Zero Salmon and Chic Filet, two new innovative plant-based products, have been launched by Atlante to meet consumer needs for more cost-effective, own-label, vegan food.

Atlante, based in Bologna, Italy, operates in the food distribution sector as a strategic partner to major retailers for the development, sourcing and distribution of food products from all over the world. As an own-brand specialist, it already supplies award-winning Italian cheeses to Sainsbury's that make up part of the retailer’s Taste the Difference range.

For months, UK consumers have been choosing own-brand products as they try to manage ever-increasing grocery bills, which are second only to energy bills. During the pandemic, consumers favoured branded goods that gave the comfort of familiarity in uncertain times, but in October 2022 UK consumers were selecting own-brands amid the cost of living crisis. In September own label sales increased by 8.1% while branded items declined by 0.7% (Kantar).

The launch of Plant Heroes Zero Salmon at an international private label trade show, Marca by BolognaFiere, in Bologna, in January 2023 coincided perfectly with Veganuary. Originating in England, Veganuary is an international organisation that encourages people to try a vegan lifestyle for January and beyond. During the 2022 campaign, more than 620,000 people took the pledge, while more than 1,540 new vegan products and menu options were launched in key campaign countries.

Atlante connects UK supermarket buyers with perfect plant-based products to meet growing demand, including own-brand product development from end to end.

“It is an important time to launch plant-based products. At Atlante we use global trend analysis and market research insights to develop successful products, both private label and tertiary brands. We use our expertise through every phase of project management,” said Phil Durham, UK Commercial Director Atlante.

Zero Salmon

The ideal solution for anyone who loves the taste of salmon fillets but loathes the impact of fishing on our oceans, Zero Salmon by Plant Heroes means classic dishes can be enjoyed with sustainability at the fore. This pea protein-based product is rich in Omega 3, iron, and vitamin B12.

Chic Fillet

Chic fillet is a chicken-like fillet that replicates the look, taste and texture of chicken in an incredible way.

Atlante has also launched the following products this month:

Go for Fit

Following the huge success of the Go For Fit range in 2022, three new protein bars have been added – two sweet and one savoury. The dark chocolate and white chocolate bars are based on traditional milk proteins (about 30% per bar), gluten-free, rich in fibre and with no added sugar. The innovative salty bar, made with spirulina (a protein-rich algae) is also rich in fibre, with no added sugar.

Aloe vera drinks

Meeting the burgeoning trend for aloe-based beverages, Atlante now offers a range of aloe vera drinks made with 30% pulp and gel. Atlante’s expansion into this market demonstrates its continuing commitment to delivering high-quality, delicious and innovative plant-based products to match increasing consumer demand. Available in three flavours – original, pineapple and passion fruit – a zero-sugar version will be added this year.
